Assistant Instructors

What is an Assistant Instructor?

Assistant Instructors are a component of our Leadership Development Program, which offers alumnae girls a chance to further develop their leadership skills in outdoor education and in the greater community. This unique position enables alumnae to gain valuable team-building skills, leadership skills and wilderness safety training while working for a diverse, experiential education nonprofit. All GirlVentures programs, both School-Year Programs and Summer Outdoor Adventure Programs, have an alumnae Assistant Instructor. This is a paid position.

Who Can Apply?

All GirlVentures alumnae who are going into their Junior year in high school or higher are eligible to apply to become Assistant Instructors. We are looking for strong leaders and girls who will be positive role models for adolescent girls.The ideal applicant:

  • Is interested in outdoor adventure activities (camping, sea kayaking or rock climbing)
  • Wants to empower adolescent girls and be a role model
  • Desires to learn about instructing wilderness trips, wilderness safety, and leadership skills
  • Is entering their Junior year or higher (up until age 21)
  • Has completed Project Courage or Transitions

When Do I Apply?

For summer 2008, Assistant Instructors must apply by March 3, 2008. Early applications encouraged. Girls of color are encouraged to apply.
