What's the COMMITTMENT?
- Girls make a one year (9month) commitment to the board, but most serve 3-4 terms (all throughout high school).
- The board meets once a month (Sept – May) on Sunday from 3:30-6:00pm at the GV office - 80% attendance is required.
- The board typically has an annual retreat in the fall (a weekend overnight).
- Meetings are run by the elected Co-chairs (high school seniors who’ve served at least 2 terms already)
- Each month two girls will lead the other girls in an activity of their choosing and then receive feedback from the other girls on there pros & grows as a facilitator.
- Each girl on the board identifies a personal goal for developing herself as a leader - she pursues her personal goal in addition to contributing to the collective goals set by the group.
- Each girl has an adult mentor to support her with her personal goals, with whom she’ll maintain regular communication.
- The primary collective goal in 2010 is to host a girl-run Walk-A-Thon (fundraiser) in April around Lake Merritt.
- Each girl is expect to do at least one outreach event; ideally reaching out to younger girls at her old middle school.
- Girls are encouraged to be a part of all GirlVentures community events as ambassadors and volunteers!
What does it COST?
It is FREE and fun! Participation on the board is considered volunteer service to the organization.
If you need to complete community service hours this is a great way to do it!
