GirlVentures partners with several amazing organizations to offer opportunities for our alumnae to develop leadership and outdoor adventure skills.

Joie Armstrong Scholars Part of NatureBridge, the Armstrong Scholar program offers young women a 12 day backpacking course in the High Sierra in late July/early August.  This program seeks diverse applicants with a “clear sense of how the program will truly benefit you.”

Openings: up to twelve (12) Deadline: Early April Age: 15-18yrs Cost: $150 (scholars will receive $1500 in assistance) Experience: All experience levels welcome, no experience necessary

National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) NOLS offers a variety of co-ed rigorous outdoor courses appropriate for girls “who are motivated to learn  outdoor skills and develop leadership, are in good health, physically and emotionally, and are socially responsible.”

Openings: three (3) Deadline: Mid February Age: minimum 14yrs Cost: Full scholarships - awarded based on financial need & waived application fees Experience: previous backcountry experience essential

Outward Bound Pinnacle Scholar The Pinnacle Scholarship Program provides 14- or 22-day backcountry expeditions for low-income, high-potential youth.  You’ll receive financial support, pre-course guidance and mentoring, and post-course support; in return you’ll complete 40 hours of community service.

Openings: one (1) Deadline: Mid-February Age: minimum 14 years Cost: $0 - full scholarship & free boots! Experience: Interest in outdoor expeditions, minimal experience required

Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC) Youth LEAD program The LEAD program is about Leaderships, Environment, Adventure and Diversity.  Twelve, twenty-one and twenty-four day rafting and kayaking adventures. Students of all cultural backgrounds encouraged.

Deadline: mid-May (rolling) Age:  14-18 years Cost: Varies - sliding scale available for low-income families. Experience: Students of all abilities encouraged to apply

The Mosaic Project Cabin Leader Serve as a mentor for the 4th and 5th graders at a 4-night/5-day outdoor school addressing issues of difference & peace. Youth leaders will attend a training retreat weekend in Napa (March or August) prior to serving as cabin leaders for a one-week session in the spring or fall.

Summer Search Selected students receive access to two (2) challenging summer programs (as sophomores and juniors), year-round mentoring throughout high school, and, as seniors, receive access to additional college-preparatory resources. Summer Search students also receive ongoing support as alumni throughout college.
